Kristen Baker (currently completing her residency in pediatrics) first met Mitchel Reeder (currently completing his Education degree) during their junior year at Frisco High school in Frisco, Texas. After a casual lunch date with mutual friends, they were instantly connected and began dating three weeks later. Although they were soon to be graduating from high school, the question of staying together or breaking up never became an issue. These high school sweethearts continued their relationship throughout college. As for Mitchel, he knew from the very beginning Kristen was the girl of his dreams.

Once Kristen completed her Bachelors degree at the University of North Texas, she decided to attend medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to become a Pediatrician. Once Kristen told Mitchel she would be moving to San Antonio to attend medical school, Mitchel decided to join her. Kristen remembered Mitchel was the one that had once suggested the move to San Antonio so she could accomplish her goal in the medical field. "Mitchel had always been very supportive, and has always encouraged me to pursue and accomplish my goals," said Kristen.
After dating for nearly seven years, Mitchel spontaneously decided to propose to Kristen while getting a haircut. He popped the question one evening by asking, "Would you like a prize?" while pulling out a plastic bubble from a toy machine, which contained Kristen's beautiful engagement ring. "I was crying and trying to open the plastic bubble, we were laughing because the plastic bubble was stuck and I just wanted to put on my ring! It was a very honest and loving moment. Mitchel proposed in his own way and that is what I loved about Mitchel from the very beginning. He has the best sense of humor, and that is what keeps our relationship strong, being able to laugh with one another is important," said the bride.
Kristen and Mitchel are huge fans of the Texas Rangers so it was no surprise when the love birds decided to have their ceremony and reception at the Texas Ranger Field. "From the first moment I stepped foot into it 14 years ago, I knew I was going to get married there. Being able to take our wedding photos out in the field was one of the best parts," mentioned Kristen. The ceremony and reception were held on May 25th 2008, at the Diamond Club Restaurant in Arlington, Texas. Kristen recalls a very special moment during the ceremony, when a letter from Mitchel to Kristen was read; a love letter he had written to Kristen when he was 16 years old. "Just the fact that the letter meant so much to him years ago and now it was being read at our wedding, and it still meant the same years later. It was a very surreal moment for us", said the bride.
The theme of the wedding was "simple and uniquely us", Kristen mentioned, "we aren't over the top people, and I didn't want our wedding to be that way; yet, we wanted to make our wedding unique". The ceremony and reception
area was adorned with rich chocolate brown, accented by baby blue hues. After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed, grilled chicken and penne pasta with a succulent sauce glazed on top. Soon after dinner, the cake was served: "the cake was one of the most important things in the wedding, for me it was all about the cake", said the bride. Together the couple cut a five- tier, hexagon shaped cake artistically created by Romano's Bakery. The outside was a creamy- brown and white- chocolate- flavored frosting; the inside was a white chocolate cake with sliced strawberries. It was a cake that was definitely talked about throughout the night. Let's not forget about the groom's cake, which was in the shape of Paul McCartney's Bass guitar also known as a Hofner base.
One of the couple's favorite memories during the reception was when the Beatles tribute band, A Hard Night's Day, began playing during the reception keeping the guests on the dance floor. Given the fact that Mitchel plays the bass guitar, he was able to play, "All My Lovin'" along with the band. Kristen recalls, "once he started to play my tears just started flowing. I knew it was so important for him to play and he actually got the chance!"
Kristen also had a surprise for Mitchel that involved his love for music. "My surprise to him was custom made guitar picks, since he plays bass guitar. We had seen them in a magazine 2 weeks before the wedding, and he really wanted them, but I told him we already had our favors and there wasn't enough time. That evening, I emailed the company frantically and had the guitar picks rush-ordered and shipped!" said the bride. The guitar picks were blue pearl, with "Mitchel picks Kristen 5-25-08" inside of a white heart. That evening, the guests went home with 2 different favors, and it's safe to say the party didn't end after the reception was over. Mitchel had his very own home brewed beer and had poured it into flasks for each guest to take home.
The couple now resides in Carrollton, Texas as they continue their lives together and look forward to the future. Looking back, Kristen mentions, "I always knew Mitchel and I would end up together." Some may say high school love is simply "puppy love," but for these two high school sweethearts it was so much more.
